New VA TV Ad Hits the Air

October 12, 2010 | Terry Howell

As a veteran’s advocate, one of the most disturbing and common phrases I have heard from is “I didn’t know…”  TheVA has taken several steps over the last year to reach out and pull veterans in and get them to enrolled in the programs and services they desperately need. The launch of social networking sites and outreach through new media were the first signs of the VA’s commitment. The latest effort by the VA was launched this week with their first series of paid advertising for thier National Veterans Awareness Campaign – “What Lies Ahead.” The Ad is set to broadcast in six targeted markets throughout the country (Norfolk; Raleigh; Savannah; Seattle; Watertown, New York; and El Paso, Texas).

According to the VA these areas were chosen based on the large numbers of OEF, OIF and OND (Operation New Dawn)Veterans returning there.   The star of the video is an OIF Marine Veteran who moved to Los Angeles recently to pursue his acting career.

  1. So this is the President's way of taking care of the poor by making us poorer by two years of no cola increase and Social Security also no increase. Yet water, gas, and electricity continues to increase. All the comitites that we need to survive continue to increase as well but no way the President says he is taking care of the less fortunate L.O.L. If I was middle class, now I am lower middle class! With no way of getting back to the middle class, if you can't work to begin with so the joke is on me!!!

  2. If the Demokrats did not take fuel and food out of the COLA computations, we would have had a COLA increase these last two years. Here's something to think about. If you earn $1,000 per month, and the feds give you a $250 check instead of a COLA these last 2 years, this is what they have done to your money: If they gave you the $250 as a COLA, instead of a one time check, your $250 would add 20.83 to your monthly check, making it $1,020.83 for the first year's no COLA. Year two, would also add another 20.83 to your monthly check, mnaking it $1041.67 for the month. Now the 20.83, for year one, would be a .02 COLA. The 2nd year, 41.67, would be a .04 COLA. So, let's say they give you a .04% COLA for year 3. If they added this .04% COLA to the $1,000 payment, it would be: $1,000 & .04 = $1,041.67. But, they gave you two $250 checks and did not add it to your monthly check. So, the .04% COLA for year 3, would make your check $1,041.67, instead of adding the .04 to the $1,041.67 check, which should make it: $1,041.67 + .04% = 1,083.34. So, in year 3, whatever the COLA is, if any, it will be computed on the $1,000 per month payment, and not on the $1,083.34 should have been monthly payment, thereby saving the feds $1,400 per year, or 116.00 per month, by giving the 250 checks, instead of just adding the 250 into the yearly amount due as a COLA. Hey dubbas, the HOR's are all lawyers, and, we the public, truly are the dumb ones. By taking fuel/food out of the computations and by giving everybody $250 per year check, instead of breaking it down into monthly payments, the feds are stealing 10's of thousands of lifetime dollars (which we have already paid for in our payroll taxes) away from our seniors and disabled veterans and denying us the benefits of COLA's, for which they were designed to do. SKREW AMERIKA. VOTE EVERYBODEY OUT, TOMMOROW! Ever wonder where the feds are going to get the trillions of dollars for the IOU's in the social security trust fund from, which they have stolen from us to pay for the VN war and more? FROM OUR TAXES! We get to pay for our social security twice!!!!!! Isn't that nice! Oh, duh!

  3. As a retiree and a disabled vet I've used my share of benefits. This means I also worked my way through the mess that is the VA. Here is part of the story of how I came back after getting fired. What isn't told is that I found a way to save my company $500,000 annually but they didn't like that I was going to physical therapy after work a couple of times a week and couldn't/wouldn't work past 1630 when I got there at 0630. And by the way, I'm working now and life isn't bad as a fed even if some of the republicans say it isn't real job.
